Greg : I don't know how much to tip a server in a restaurant.

Kathy : It is quite simple. If you think the server was helpful and there were no problems with the food. you leave the tip on the table. 10 to 15% of the bill is a reasonable amount.

Greg : But, I heard that tip were originally optional and given to reward exceptional service. Do I always have to leave a tip?

Kathy : Yeah, unless the serive was extermely terrible. In many cases, serive workers including waiters rely on tips for their earnings.
